Covering the villages of Wilsden and Harecroft
On June 4th, 2014 Wilsden Parish Council submitted a formal application to Bradford Council to start the process to establish a Neighbourhood Plan for the parish council area. This was approved by Bradford Council on December 2nd, 2014. The 2011 Localism Act gives considerable powers to local communities to have a say about both where new houses will be built and the types of houses to be built. The Act states that parish councils are one of the best ways for local communities to have a say about development in their area. The process by which communities have their say is through a Neighbourhood Development Plan and, if this is approved by a local referendum, the plan is legally binding on Bradford Council’s planners.

The one area that local communities have far less influence in a Neighbourhood Development Plan is the number of houses that will be built in their area; that remains the responsibility of planning authorities such as Bradford. The overall number of houses to be built in Wilsden will be decided as part of the development of the Local Plan by Bradford and that is why the Parish Council gave such importance to ensuring that our views are heard.

The Neighbourhood Development Plan will not just consider housing but will also be able to look at the impact upon shops and other local businesses and how we can make Wilsden even more sustainable as a local community. We can look at how important it is for instance that we have local employment in the village rather than just being a suburban dormitory for other parts of Bradford and Leeds.

The Parish Council has received financial support from the Government via a body called Locality and this has enabled us to employ a specialised planning consultant who will ensure that we develop a plan that complies with all legal and planning requirements as well as being based upon the wishes of the people of Wilsden and Harecroft.

A Working Group, involving both parish councillors and local residents, has been established and is meeting regularly. Details of Working Group meetings are available in the agendas and minutes section of the website.

If you have a specific query about the development of the neighbourhood plan or wish to make contact about issues in the plan, please contact the Parish Clerk - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Consultation has taken place with residents both through a questionnaire delivered to all households and a number of public meetings. The results of this consultation, coupled with detailed evidence from a number of sources, has been used to prepare a draft Neighbourhood Plan that is going through a process of formal consultation with both residents and other consultees.  A copy of the Plan can be viewed and downloaded here:
Hard copies of the plan will be available for view at Wilsden Library and Wilsden Community Post Office along with a number of other locations in Wilsden.

An exhibition of the draft plan will be held on 6th July 2017 in Wilsden Village Hall between 2pm and 4pm and 6.30pm and 8.30pm.

The pre-submission consultation commenced on the 14th June 2017 and the closing date for representations is 26th July 2017.
