 Dear Ms Hall

Further to our letter sent on 2nd March requesting that the decision regarding changes to Car Parking Fees in Wilsden be deferred pending further Asset Transfer negotiations we note your prompt response for which we are grateful, if not disappointed.

However, with regard to your proposals for Wilsden we most strongly object both in general terms but more specifically to the proposed withdrawal of the free 30 minute period.  This will have a seriously deleterious effect on both residents and businesses in the centre of the village as there is extremely limited on-street parking available.

Wilsden is a community striving to maintain a varied mix of vibrant services and retail premises and we are certain that the proposed changes will undermine our ability to maintain this by deterring shoppers who will drive out of the town to supermarkets that offer free parking.

Because of the dearth of both on-street and off-street parking in the centre of the village one half of the car park has been given over to long stay parking which allows free parking for a period up to 12 hours.  This is used principally by the cottages fronting Main street where there is no alternative appropriate parking.

To introduce a charge of £10.50 a week to continue to use this facility will seriously add to the traffic problems experienced on the Main Street, as residents will seek to avoid this charge by parking wherever they can.

An alternative scenario is that long stay parkers who are prepared to pay the charge will take over the carpark, leaving little or no provision for short stay shoppers.

Feedback received over the years tells us that parking problems in the village are the source of major concern to many Wilsden Residents.

Wilsden Parish Council objects in the strongest possible terms to any proposals for changing car parking regulations that would be a major detriment to both the residents and businesses in Wilsden.

 Yours sincerely

 Gail Denham
