One of the first decisions taken when the Parish Council was established was to brighten up the village by putting hanging baskets on the lamp posts in Main Street, this has continued every year since. In addition to the cost of filling the baskets we have purchased the special reusable baskets and paid for installing the special brackets (and replacing these when they are damaged). One practical issue that limits the parts of Main Street where baskets are put up is the type of lamp post. All of Main Street going down the hill from the junction with Royd Street has steel lamp posts and these are suitable for installing the brackets for hanging baskets. From Royd Street to the Ling Bob roundabout many of the lamp posts are concrete and not suitable for installing hanging baskets.
