We are a community run library offering the same range of services as any of Bradford’s libraries, but staffed by volunteers. We have nearly 5,000 books in stock including a wide selection for children.

We have two PCs with internet access available which can be used to request books from any Bradford library for delivery to Wilsden the following week if not on loan and subject to driver availability. The PCs can also be used to search a wide range of library resources such as dictionaries, encyclopaedias, newspaper articles and reference books from accountancy to zoology.

How do I join?

If you already hold a Bradford Library ticket you are already a member of Wilsden Community Library. If not, you can join at any branch including of course Wilsden. Visit the village hall and fill out an application form. You will need to bring some identification, such as a utility bill or driving licence, showing your address, with you.

We cannot issue a ticket on the spot, your application will be processed and a library ticket sent to Wilsden the following week. If you wish you can join immediately at any regular Bradford library, again identification will be needed. Adults can also join online and bring identification to Wilsden Library when collecting their ticket.

How many items may I borrow?

You can borrow up to 25 items at any one time. Children can also borrow 25 items. In all libraries you will be given a single ‘credit card’ type ticket which you will need to present each time you borrow material. All libraries use the computerised library card.

What happens if I return the items late?

Bradford Libraries make a charge for a book that is overdue. As a Community Library we are unable to collect any fines. These will be charged to your ticket and are payable when you use any regular Bradford library. The details of the charges are in all libraries. Please return or renew books on time to avoid fines. There are no charges for children and teenagers under 16 and no charges for pensioners.

How long can I keep them?

All book loans are for three weeks, with renewal possible as long as no one else is waiting for the book. CDs and DVDs are available in larger libraries. These can be hired on a weekly basis.

May I use other libraries?

You can visit any library in Bradford to borrow books and use their services. The ticket issued by Wilsden Library is valid in any of Bradford’s libraries. You can also return books to Wilsden borrowed from any other Bradford library.

Please remember the staff are there to help. If they can’t answer your questions they will know who can. Please ask!
